Rêve Neighbourhood Profile

Reve logoThe King West neighbourhood is downtown Toronto city living at its finest.

I realized this while walking around on a surprisingly muggy afternoon after visiting Rêve’s EcoSuite. From Rêve, it’s possible to walk to almost anything you could need and all else is easily accessible by the Bathurst, King and Queen streetcars. If you need to leave town quickly – we won’t ask why – Porter Airlines is one km away. Talk about convenience!

The Counter is trendy Thompson Hotel's upscale, twenty-four hour diner.

New cutting-edge developments and brick buildings from another era enclose picturesque little green spaces, so there is still a nice neighbourhood feel in the side streets.

King Street offers a plethora of upscale dining and entertainment, with trendy young professionals hurrying along with Starbucks or sipping cocktails on a patio.

Queen West is one of my favorite walking strips for the eclectic mix of stores and people. A definite plus to the area is the soon opening of a Loblaws and Joe Fresh at Queen and Portland (Winners is now open on the third floor).

I try to venture into Chinatown or Kensington Market whenever I’m in the area. Both are great places for cheap, quality produce and tons of unique things. I’ve noticed that whenever someone wants something out of the ordinary (great used jeans? karaoke CDs?), the answer is usually in one of these two places.

A relaxing green space, Victoria Memorial park is just one block from Rêve.

Both neighbourhoods also have such dynamic atmospheres – great places to take in the city. On this particular afternoon I wandered up bustling Spadina and had lunch at Pho Hung, watching Torontonians enjoy the warm weather and then begin to panic and run when the rain started.

To find out what else Rêve’s area has to offer, check out the map below. Included are photos of my walking tour, grocery stores, schools and the hospital in the area.

If you’re familiar with the King West area, what are your favorite spots? And if you’re a new Rêve resident, what would you recommend to your new neighbours moving in? Anyone that hasn’t seen this part of Toronto definitely needs to check it out and take a tour of Rêve’s amenities and model suites.
