Parc Nuvo rooftop party

Meat, meat and more meat. Not surprisingly, construction guys (and ladies!) love to eat meat. And there sure was a lot at the Parc Nuvo rooftop party, including a whole pig, steaks, ribs, chicken and sausages.

The party was held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at this new Tridel community under development in Etobicoke, right next to the Kipling subway station. Rooftop parties are a construction milestone, held when the roof is put on the building. It’s a time to celebrate the height being reached. This “topping out” ceremony goes back more than 1,000 years, according to this New York Times article. In Scandinavia in 700 A.D., a tree would be raised, a custom perhaps indicating that life will soon be in the building.

Thankfully, since it’s November, the party was held in the first floor lobby areas and with heaters, on instead of on the rooftop. I was told to dress with many layers on and I ended up sweating!

The party areas had many long tables set up filled with mostly men gnawing on ribs and swigging cold beer. It was eye opening to see just how many people were involved in the construction of the building. It seemed like hundreds were there.

I also had a chance to wander around the building to check out the progress. It was fun to peek in rooms and see what state they were in. And watch some guys work on the pool, which is now just one large, empty, concrete box. The finishes are starting to be put in on most of the lower floors.

It’s great that Tridel throws these parties so everyone can just relax and enjoy each other’s company and their accomplishments so far.

Parc Nuvo is shaping up to be a great building and is the last building in the Essex community. For those interested, suites are still available, for prices see here.
