This holiday season get creative by shaking things up from your regular routines. Instead of doing a traditional advent calendar, why not try to fill each day with festive activities that you can do together? Here are some ideas:
1. Host a Holiday Baking Contest.
Food brings people together — and a little friendly competition makes it even more fun. Set up your computer in a corner of your kitchen, pretend you’re on your favorite baking show, and put a new spin on your cookie-making traditions. Baking can be a daylong event.
2. Give Back in Your Community.
It always feels good to give back during the holiday season, so why not make it a family activity? Check out what your local food bank needs for donations, and put together a box of supplies for families in need. Who knows, it might even become an annual tradition.
Here are some other ideas:
BOLT Foundation (connecting under-resourced youth to careers in construction)
SickKids (Hospital for Sick Children)
3. Play Secret Santa – Through the Mail.
Just because you can’t get together with extended family and dear friends doesn’t mean you can’t play Secret Santa. Have everyone draw names as usual, then you can mail gifts to your recipient. It will make guessing who picked you even more challenging!
4. Host a Holiday Movie Marathon.
Host a Netflix party featuring some of your favourite holiday movies. If you’re going to watch with people who you live with, you can watch in-person together. If your party is going to be online, watch together using Teleparty so you can watch simultaneously.
