Construction Begins at MRKT Alexandra Park on Dundas Street West.

We’re pleased to announce the start of construction at MRKT Alexandra Park, located on Dundas Street West, just south of Kensington Market. 

Once demolition was completed, teams began getting the site prepared to start construction. To date, the site teams have finished all of the surrounding site service work, which includes water and sewer lines,  as well as completed the roads that will service the future Alexandra Park community. 

Augusta Avenue has been extended north to meet Dundas Street West, and Grange Avenue, at the south end of this block, has also been extended into the Alexandra Park community. Expanding these roads is a major connectivity milestone in the revitalization of the award-winning Alexandra Park community. The 18-acre masterplanned community prioritizes connectivity, walkability, and integration with the surrounding community, all of which are based on quality urban design, and contribute to improved  access to services and enhanced community safety.

With the roads and servicing  now complete, the construction team has officially begun excavating, or digging, for the future underground levels, and shoring, which is the reinforcement of the dirt walls after excavation.

Lots of changes will be happening on site at MRKT Alexandra Park over the next few months. Shoring and excavation is targeting completion by the end of the year, with the installation of the tower crane to follow shortly after. The contemporary 15-storey building shares a podium and several outdoor spaces with the new Atkinson Co-op residence building to the east. The 18-acre masterplanned revitalization of the Alexandra Park community began in 2013 with SQ  at Queen and Spadina, followed by SQ2 shortly after. MRKT is the third phase of the redevelopment, and first in the transformation of the Dundas corridor.
