Scala Construction Update for July 2020
Since our last update, the on-site teams at Scala have progressed above ground level and are currently forming the 5th floor of this new North York community. Forming includes laying out the structural components of each floor, including the walls and columns, before concrete is poured over-top, securing everything in place. As one floor is completed, the on-site team then moves up one level and begins forming the next floor.
Mechanical & Plumbing Permits
With the plumbing and mechanical permits now received, the on-site teams are moving forward with the next stage of construction. These approvals mean that the designs for these specific building systems have been reviewed and approved by the required municipal authorities. At present, the on-site teams are working on the mechanical rough-ins, including plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work, on the ground floor of the community.
Prefabricated Precast & Windows
Precast – the exterior finishing of the building – is scheduled to begin installation in a month. At Scala, this includes the installation of prefabricated or Prefab modules of the building, complete with windows, that will become the exterior walls of the building. Mock-ups of these prefabricated units were recently completed, and the Scala team was able to review these new pieces of the construction of the Scala community. Once the installation of these prefabricated components begins, Scala’s distinctive stepped, white exterior will begin to come alive.
Located near Leslie and Sheppard, Scala is beautifully nestled above an expanse of green space, with views overlooking the Toronto skyline and the surrounding ravine and parkland, while still within easy walking distance to the myriad of dining, shopping, and entertainment in the affluent Bayview Village neighbourhood of Toronto.
