His Royal Highness Crown Prince of Denmark opens new architecture exhibit at Bayside Toronto

Waterfront Architecture: Placemaking and Context is free to attend and will run until late spring

TORONTO, March 4, 2019 – His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark visited Bayside Toronto this morning as part of the opening of a new architecture exhibit by Danish firm 3XN. Located inside the Hines Tridel Bayside Toronto Presentation Centre, Waterfront Architecture: Placemaking and Context is an exploration of harbour cities and the dynamics between buildings, public spaces, urban circulation and the water’s edge.

Flanked by the Danish Minister for Energy, Utilities and Climate, Lars Christian Lilleholt, Danish Ambassador to Canada Thomas Winkler, as well as Minister Steve Clark, and representatives from Hines, Tridel and Waterfront Toronto, the Crown Prince also helped unveil plans for a new office tower at Bayside Toronto.

Designed by 3XN, T3 Bayside is conceived as a 10-storey, timber-constructed office tower by master developer Hines. A new scale model for the building is on display as part of the exhibition.

“We are very excited about the continuous collaboration and value creation among Danish and Canadian companies in respect to creating sustainable and livable cities,” says Danish Consul General Niels Tanderup Kristensen.

“From the beginning, the world has taken note of Waterfront Toronto’s unprecedented 2,000-acre revitalization plan—the largest such initiative currently underway anywhere. We are humbled to have His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark here to mark the opening of this exciting exhibit and the announcement of the first office project at Bayside Toronto. It’s a testament to the sustained attention Toronto’s waterfront revitalization is receiving worldwide that we are able to have the Crown Prince here with us today,” says Avi Tesciuba, Senior Managing Director, Hines Canada.

Nearly a decade has passed since Hines was named the master developer of Bayside Toronto, following an international competition by Waterfront Toronto. Hines brought Canada’s leading condominium developer Tridel on as its exclusive residential development partner at Bayside. Hines and Tridel are responsible for the successful launch of four residential projects: Aqualina, Aquavista, Aquabella and Aqualuna. 3XN’s notable design for Aquabella marked the Danish firm’s first project in North America and was quickly followed up by a striking, undulating form for Aqualuna.

“Tridel takes pride in helping introduce 3XN’s unique brand of contextually responsive design to North America with their work on two standout projects at Bayside,” says Leo DelZotto, President and CEO, Tridel. “It’s an honour to stand alongside the Crown Prince, as well as the Danish Ambassador to Canada, Minister Steve Clark, and Waterfront Toronto as we open this exhibit. We invite the public to the Bayside Presentation Centre to experience these designs firsthand and see how 3XN is helping shape waterfronts around the world.”

Waterfront Architecture: Placemaking and Context highlights 11 completed and in-progress waterfront projects by 3XN in Toronto, Sydney and Denmark. Each project is designed to amplify the best aspects of the local site and make a positive impact on the people that live and work there.

“Over half of 3XN’s work worldwide relates to water. Our own office is on the water and in Denmark there is more than 2,000 km of waterfront, so it’s almost impossible to have a site that doesn’t connect with the water in some ways,” says Kim Herforth Nielsen, Founding Principal of 3XN. “In harbour cities, the waterfront is always the most valuable and desirable area. This exhibit is meant to explore how we as designers can create multifunctional spaces that make the most of where everyone wants to be.”

The decision to have 3XN helm the design for T3 Bayside came after the studio emerged as the winner of a design competition set up specifically for the commercial component of Bayside’s master plan. While T3 Bayside is still in planning, with a scheduled appearance before the Waterfront Toronto Design Review Panel later this month, the impact 3XN has had on Toronto’s waterfront to-date is unmistakable.

“3XN’s work is guided by the belief that a project should provide a backdrop for shared interactions, and integrate social spaces that benefit all kinds of people, not just those that live and work there,” says Nielsen.

The exhibit will run until late spring and is free to the public. Exhibit hours are Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and weekends and holidays noon to 5 p.m. The Hines Tridel Bayside Presentation Centre is located at 261 Queens Quay East.

Integrated wireless technology provides convenience, connectivity and peace of mind

TORONTO, August 20, 2018 – Leading Canadian condominium developer Tridel unveiled its first smart condominium at Ten York, a newly completed 69-storey community in Toronto’s downtown core. Ten York features Tridel Connect, an innovative range of integrated smart home features designed to make condo living as convenient as possible.

Tridel Connect makes it easier to do everyday tasks like enter and exit your home, manage temperature settings and the suite alarm system, host guests and receive packages. It also allows homeowners to rely on voice and data connectivity within the building, a benefit that has become very important as a growing number of consumers no longer have landlines or cable and require robust wi-fi.

“Toronto is fast becoming a global technology hub and Tridel is keeping pace by introducing a range of tech-savvy amenities which are available to our customers today,” said Jim Ritchie, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Tridel. “With erratic schedules, 24/7 work demands and the nature of living in a bustling city, people are increasingly looking for ways to simplify their lives. A more connected home and community is one way to accomplish that.

“Tridel Connect is the result of a collaboration with real estate technology company SmartONE Solutions, which helped us elevate Ten York beyond standard condo living, using smart building features,” explains Bruno Giancola, Tridel Senior Vice President Project Management/ Innovation & Sustainability. “Their platform uses a central network and integrates multiple systems to enable shared services and individual features for each suite. Ten York received industry recognition recently with a Multifamily/Residential Digie Award for Most Intelligent Building Project at the Realcomm conference held in Las Vegas in June 2018.”

Tridel Connect at Ten York offers the following features:

Home Connectivity

Adjust the temperature, set the security alarm and receive notifications about community events and services through an in-suite wall pad or remotely via a smartphone app.

Welcome Guests

A wall pad lets homeowners see and speak with guests before allowing them entry.

Suite Entry

No more keys. Digital door locks use a personalized access code for entry. Additional codes can be programmed for family members, friends, or service providers, like a dog walker. Homeowners can also assign nicknames to friends and family to keep a record of who has entered their suite, using the wall pad.

Manage Peace of Mind

A camera view of select common areas and direct video communication with the concierge provides added peace of mind for residents (video is one-way to protect resident privacy).

Community Access

A personalized Bluetooth smartphone app unlocks common area doors as a resident approaches.

Licence Plate Recognition

Licence plate recognition provides automated entry to the parking garage for residents and registered guests—no fob or door opener is required.

Automated Parcel Delivery

Given the popularity of e-commerce, an automated smart locker system has been installed. When a package arrives, residents are sent a digital message and their package is held until it’s convenient for them to pick it up.

Managed Network

A dedicated team monitors and manages the sophisticated network infrastructure in the building to keep the system connected and running smoothly.

Robust, Reliable Connectivity

A distributed antenna system enhances voice and data connectivity for mobile devices within the building to ensure residents on even the highest floors stay connected.

Advanced Wi-Fi

All suites at Ten York include unlimited, ultra high-speed 500 mbps internet as a utility and high-speed guest internet is available in the building’s common amenity areas.

“Innovative, smart home technologies have benefits for all types of condo residents—from millennials for whom technology is second nature, to seniors looking for added peace of mind features, to families with young kids who can use a smartphone rather than a fob to come and go,” added Ritchie.

The convenience, simplicity and joy of riding one is better experienced, not explained. Check out one of the Elby e-bikes on display at the Tridel Presentation Centres below:

“We are excited about the potential of our collaboration with Elby,” added Ritchie. “E-bikes are popular in world-class cities like Paris, Amsterdam and London because they have a lot of benefits.
